Mereside Medical has a legal obligation under The Children’s Act 1989 to safeguard all children from abuse.
The four main categories of abuse are neglect, emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Beyond our legal obligation we also want to work with and support families to ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive. This requires us to be professionally curious and offer support both when requested and where we have concerns that a child’s needs are not being met. Any onward referrals would be tailored to the level of support required which may include the Early Help Hub or children’s social care. More information can be found here. Members of the public can also make a referral using this website link.
The Domestic Abuse Act of 2021 clearly defines domestic abuse as crime. It also states that witnessing domestic abuse in childhood is child abuse. We want to support all victims of domestic abuse to access help in order to protect themselves and their families. More information regarding support for victims of domestic abuse can be found here.
