Diabetes, Heart Disease & Hypertension Clinic

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is recognised due to raised blood sugar levels, but actually this is only one aspect of the problem. The major risks of type 2 diabetes relate to cardiovascular disease.

For this reason our diabetes clinic has become our cardiovascular clinic, in which we manage type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and cardiovascular risks.

We have a recall system by which we expect to review all patients with these problems at least once a year, with blood tests and clinical review.

Our highly qualified team consists of specialist nurses with advanced qualifications in diabetes and cardiovascular health, all supported by our GP lead for diabetes, Dr James Howard.

These clinics work in the context of system wide support for patients newly diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and we have good relationships with both hospital and community teams if the needs of the patient require additional support.
