In response to the ongoing pressures upon general practice phlebotomy services, as well as understanding that many of our patients require appointments outside of the ‘normal working day’ we are offering patients multiple local options for blood test appointments. Current options are:
- Pre-booked appointments within our Enhanced Access Service. There are evening and weekend appointments available to all patients, and are offered at multiple practices in your local area (with practice locations within Soham, Ely or Littleport). Appointments are Monday to Thursday 6.30pm-8pm and Saturday’s 9am-5pm. You can book an appointment through the receptionist at your usual practice, who will give you the time and location of your appointment. These are non-urgent, routine appointments only. If you are difficult to bleed or known to faint, please let us know so we can allow additional time.
- Pre-booked Appointments at the Ely Community Diagnostic Centre (known as the CDC for short). Based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Lynn Road, Ely CB6 1DN. Phlebotomy appointments for patients aged 18 years plus.
Please ring 01223 808 501 between 09:00- 15:00 Monday to Wednesday to book an appointment for your blood test, then collect your printed request form from the surgery.
They cannot take your bloods without the printed request form with labels so please remember to collect these before your appointment. - Drive-through phlebotomy service based at Newmarket Road Park and Ride Site, Cambridge, CB5 8AA. https://www.cuh.nhs.uk/news/drive-through-blood-tests/
The service is available between 9.30-4.30, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) and is for patients aged 16 and over only.
Please attend Newmarket Road Park & Ride Site in Cambridge – either as a driver of a car or passenger. There is no facility for walk in patients.
Any persons not attending in a hard top vehicle or any vehicle exceeding two meters in height are not permitted to attend.

We can offer weekday or weekend appointments at your usual practice if you are unable to travel elsewhere, but please be aware that there may be a wait for these appointments. If your blood tests are not urgent, we may be able to accommodate you on a weekend or weekday at your usual practice site. Please call your practice to book.
All blood tests requested by us will come back to us for review.
